I care deeply about addressing the climate crisis, and I wish for you and all our elected representatives to work together so our communities can thrive for generations to come.

I welcome the Morrison Government’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050 as a step towards meaningful climate action. But it is not enough – we urgently need a solid plan to drastically cut pollution this decade and ramp up climate solutions.

This announcement comes without a much-needed target for cutting pollution by 2030. According to the scientific consensus on climate change, we must cut pollution by more than half this decade if we are to avoid catastrophic global warming. We need to rapidly move away from polluting coal, oil and gas and into climate solutions like clean energy. So many communities and ecosystems are already being impacted by climate damage – we cannot keep damaging our climate at the current rate.

The majority of Australians want greater action and leadership from you, our elected representatives. I urge you to speak up in our Parliament and use your influence on your colleagues to advocate for Australia to cut pollution by more than half this decade.

Independent MP Zali Steggall recently introduced to Parliament a Climate Change Bill that would set ambitious targets to cut pollution by more than half by 2030. I urge you and your colleagues to support this bill. Now is the moment.

There are so many opportunities for all of us in climate solutions. I urge you to advocate for the following ways we can rapidly cut pollution and renew our communities so everyone can thrive:

Send our sunshine around the world. Australia can become a global clean energy superpower in the next decade by replacing coal, gas and uranium exports and use with renewable energy. We have plentiful sun and wind. A valuable export industry that secures and creates great jobs through manufactured products like green hydrogen, steel and aluminium is within our reach.
Create energy independent communities. Power schools, hospitals, government offices, public and social housing, remote Indigenous communities, sporting clubs, halls and libraries with affordable, clean energy by 2025, and replace coal and gas-burning power stations with renewable energy and storage by 2030.
Travel clean. Take pollution out of transport. Save our health and climate with more accessible buses and trains running on clean energy, make electric vehicles cheaper and install electric vehicle charging stations across the country.
Save our big backyard. Create strong national nature protection laws that stop Australia’s worsening extinction crisis, and support nature as a climate solution. New laws must be enforced by an independent regulator. Our forests, wetlands and bushlands store greenhouse gases, provide homes for our unique animals and birds, and are places where people restore and revive.
Move the money. Political parties must stop accepting dirty donations and giving public funding to coal and gas companies and ban big political donations to reduce their influence on decision making.

Taking climate action is good for all of us. Please take the climate action that the majority of Australians want and need.

Do Gooder (the advocacy platform powering this online action) processes personal information from you that you enter on this form so that we can provide the functions and related services to you and The Campaigner (the organisation responsible for this online action) for their legitimate purposes, including possibly exporting it to other systems, and to effectively respond to enquiries and communications related to those services.

Your location data (residential address or postcode) it is used to locate your elected representative, to pre-populate your email signature and to provide The Campaigner with a visualisation of the location of the support for this campaign.
All other data you may enter, including your email address, name, telephone number, commentary and so on is used by The Campaigner to advocate for the campaign’s goals and where required may be sent to the target of the campaign.
If your support is shown on a public facing map your first name and approximate location (within a 1x1km square area) will be shown. If you uploaded a photo as part of an action that may be shown also.

The data collected by Do Gooder is also used by us in aggregate form to improve the service and may be held on your behalf outside your country of residence by our third party service providers. These providers are bound by contract to only use personal information on our behalf, in accordance with agreed terms.
