The global plan would impact all Australians for the next 300,000 years. It would require the active support of the federal government – but there is no bipartisan political support.

At its national conference in July last year federal Labor committed to: “Remain strongly opposed to the importation and storage of nuclear waste that is sourced from overseas in Australia.”

This is good, but there’s an organised campaign for an international waste dump in SA, and an expensive “consultation” and social media campaign which presents the plan as if it’s a done deal. Against this push it is important to help make sure federal Labor stays strong.
